Alone among all the hosts of the Necrons, the Triarch Praetorians answer to no Phaeron, Overlord or royal dynasty; their loyalty belongs solely to the Triarch and to Szarekh, the last Silent King. When Szarekh shattered his command protocols at the end of the War in Heaven and departed into the intergalactic void in self-imposed penance, the Triarch Praetorians chose not to enter the Great Sleep alongside their kindred. Instead, they remained awake across sixty million years of isolation, keeping vigil over the slumbering Tomb Worlds, subtly guiding lesser primitive species in Necrontyr cultural patterns, and executing interlopers who stumbled upon the buried crypts.
Because they embody the law and memory of the ancient Triarch, Praetorians stand entirely outside dynastic hierarchy. Even the proudest Phaeron dares not strike down a Triarch Praetorian, for to do so is to invite the collective wrath of every Praetorian Judicator-prime in the sector. Whenever two reawakened Necron dynasties clash, the Praetorians sit in cold judgement to ensure the ancient codes of honourable war are obeyed — and if a Tomb World is threatened by xenos or Imperial invaders, they descend on anti-gravitic pinions to fight where the line is closest to breaking.
With the return of Szarekh the Silent King to the galaxy in the Era Indomitus, the surviving Triarch Praetorians have rallied in vast numbers to his banner, enforcing his grand design against the Tyranids and the Pariah Nexus.
Appearance & wargear
Tall, regal and sculpted in the likeness of the ancient Necrontyr gods, Triarch Praetorians wear ornate necrodermis plate crowned with high, crested headdresses and ribbed dorsal flight-thrusters that project glowing emerald anti-gravitic fields and rib-like energy pinions when they leap into the air. Their chestplates bear the unblemished, three-pillared Ankh of the Triarch rather than any dynastic sigil. In battle they wield either the two-handed Rod of Covenant — a badge of office whose tip houses a searing miniature star-core that projects blasts of solar energy at range and cleaves power armour in melee — or a Voidblade and Particle Caster pistol.

Battlefield role & tactics
Combining the heavy living-metal resilience of Lychguard with the aerial mobility of jump infantry, Triarch Praetorians soar over terrain and defensive bastions to strike at the heart of the enemy formation. Dropping from the skies in a blaze of green anti-grav light, they unleash point-blank volleys from their Rods of Covenant or Particle Casters before wading into close combat, where their ancient martial mastery and star-forged staves cut down Space Marine Terminators, Aeldari Aspect Warriors and enemy commanders alike.
Field Modifications, Sub-Faction Doctrines & Operational Idiosyncrasies
Within the strategic threat-indices of the Departmento Munitorum, the Ordo Xenos, and the high command savants of Necrons, Triarch Praetorians are classified as a premier fast attack asset whose battlefield effectiveness stems from the tight integration of operator conditioning and specialized wargear. Bound by sixty-million-year-old command engrams and interstitial repair scarabs, Necron phalanxes and Canoptek constructs march in silent, soulless unison while self-healing necrodermis reknits shattered limbs and phases wounded hulls back to tomb-world repair crypts. In active campaign theatres, Tall, regal and sculpted in the likeness of the ancient Necrontyr gods, Triarch Praetorians wear ornate necrodermis plate crowned with high, crested headdresses and ribbed dorsal flight-thrusters that project glowing emerald anti-gravitic fields and rib-like energy pinions when they leap into the air. Their chestplates bear the unblemished, three-pillared Ankh of the Triarch rather than any dynastic sigil.
Veteran formations of Triarch Praetorians develop distinct sub-faction doctrines and field modifications over decades of continuous deployment. During the eons of the Great Sleep, Triarch Praetorians walked in disguise among primitive young races, leaving traces of Necrontyr architecture and iconography across the galaxy. Whether fighting in void-ship boarding actions, ash-waste tank duels, or ruined hive-city basilicas, experienced crews and squad leaders strip away parade-ground redundancies to maximize ammunition feed reliability, target-acquisition speed, and close-quarters survivability under extreme suppression.
Field maintenance and biological or machine-spirit recovery logs confirm that sustained combat exacts a heavy toll on both wargear and flesh, yet Triarch Praetorians maintain operational cohesion long after standard line units would collapse. Following every major engagement, recovery teams prioritize the immediate extraction of their core panoply, veterancy honors, and consecrated components so that the lineage and lethal institutional memory of the formation endure into the next warzone.
Heraldry, Battle-Damage & Community Artistry
Across the Warhammer 40,000 illustration, Golden Demon painting, and display-diorama community, Triarch Praetorians stand out as one of the most rewarding subjects in the Necrons range. Artists and miniature painters focus intently on their signature visual hallmarks: burnished Sautekh silver, Szarekhan bronze, or Nihilakh turquoise-and-gold necrodermis, contrasted against intense, radioactive tesseract-green OSL glowing from ribcage apertures, eye-nodes, and gauss rods. Combined with the distinct silhouette described in field sightings—Tall, regal and sculpted in the likeness of the ancient Necrontyr gods, Triarch Praetorians wear ornate necrodermis plate crowned with high, crested headdresses and ribbed dorsal flight-thrusters that project glowing emerald anti-gravitic fields and rib-like energy pinions when they leap into the air—every model and canvas painting offers a rich interplay of texture between rigid armour plates, weathered cloth or chitin, and gleaming weapon assemblies.
When depicting Triarch Praetorians at the height of battle, community artists and painters push contrast through sponge-chipped battle damage, directional mud and ash pigments across the lower greaves or hull tracks, and vivid Object Source Lighting (OSL) cast by active lenses, energy coils, or muzzle flashes. Sub-faction heraldry, campaign badges, and trophy details allow hobbyists to anchor each miniature or illustration in a specific canonical warzone—celebrating both the grimdark complexity of the Forty-First Millennium and the craftsmanship of the community that brings Necrons to life.
