Even among the cold, undying legions of the Necrontyr dynasties, the Deathmarks are regarded with unease by traditionalist Nemesors and Overlords. Under the ancient Triarch's code of honorable warfare, a Necron noble was expected to grant a worthy opponent the chance to face death in open battle; only against "lesser" or dishonorable foes were the Executioners of the dynasties permitted to unleash the Deathmarks. During the War in Heaven and the Great Sleep that followed, however, many dynasties abandoned such scruples, turning their Deathmarks loose upon Aeldari Farseers, Space Marine Captains and Ork Warbosses alike.
Unlike lesser Necron Warriors, whose minds were scoured to blank obedience during biotransference, Deathmarks retained a chillingly intact measure of their mortal intellect, patience and dry, predatory cunning. They do not march in phalanxes; instead, they slip out of realspace into a cold, timeless pocket dimension known as the Hyperspace Oubliette, observing the battlefield as spectral voyeurs until their quarry steps into view.
Once a Deathmark tags a target with the emerald "hunter's halo" projected from its ocular matrix, escape is virtually impossible. The assassin can wait in its extra-dimensional blind for hours, years or centuries until the exact microsecond the target lowers their guard, then step halfway through a shimmering dimensional aperture to put a synaptic beam through their skull.
Appearance & wargear
A Deathmark's necrodermis frame is sleeker and more hunched than an Immortal's, its spine and shoulders studded with glowing emerald translocation nodes that crackle with extradimensional energy as it phases between realities. Its smooth, skull-like faceplate lacks the twin eye sockets of other Necrons, bearing instead a single cyclopean ocular lens centered in the forehead that tracks targets across multiple dimensions and projects the fatal green hunter's halo onto its marked prey. Every Deathmark cradles a long-barrelled Synaptic Disintegrator, an esoteric sniper rifle whose twin chambers fire accelerated sub-atomic particles tuned specifically to obliterate neural tissue and synaptic pathways without leaving so much as a scratch on the victim's outer armour.

Battlefield role & tactics
Operating as dimensional assassins and counter-ambush specialists, Deathmarks materialise from their Hyperspace Oubliette onto high ruins, cliff ledges or directly behind an enemy command squad. Because their dimensional sensors detect the exact moment enemy reserves teleport or drop onto the field, a squad of Deathmarks can step out of nowhere and gun down a newly arrived unit before it even finishes materialising. A single volley from their Synaptic Disintegrators drops enemy officers, psykers and Apothecarys like puppets with severed strings, their brains reduced to grey ash inside intact helmets.

Field maintenance and biological recovery logs indicate that extended deployment without liturgical recalibration or bio-stasis rest degrades targeting and metabolic stability by less than 4% per solar week—far outperforming standard sector baselines—while post-engagement recovery teams prioritize the immediate extraction of their core wargear, neural/gene-seed components, or machine-spirit memory cores before enemy scavengers can exploit them.
