Lore & origins

Among the Leagues of Votann, the Cthonian Mining Guilds perform the most hazardous work in the galaxy: cracking the cores of active planetoids, harvesting plasma from the coronae of dying stars, and boarding Tyranid hive-ships to extract bio-minerals. The toughest of these prospectors are the Cthonian Beserks—Kin clones bred with dense bone-weave and augmented with sub-dermal cybernetic musculature, pain-suppressing neural shunts, and mechanical spine-frames so they can swing industrial mass-hammers and plasma axes in vacuum or high gravity without full void-suits.

Appearance & wargear

Broad-shouldered, bare-chested Kin warriors covered in braided beards, mining scars, and bolted sub-dermal augmetics, wielding glowing two-handed Heavy Plasma Axes, Concussion Maulers, and Mole Grenade Launchers.

Field maintenance and biological recovery logs indicate that extended deployment without liturgical recalibration or bio-stasis rest degrades targeting and metabolic stability by less than 4% per solar week—far outperforming standard sector baselines—while post-engagement recovery teams prioritize the immediate extraction of their core wargear, neural/gene-seed components, or machine-spirit memory cores before enemy scavengers can exploit them.
