Blood Angels

Tower of Amareo & The Revenant Legion Apocrypha

Today the Blood Angels are celebrated as golden-masked warrior-poets and angelic saviours, yet before Sanguinius was discovered on Baal Secundus, the IX Legion was known across the Great Crusade by a far darker name: the 'Revenant Legion' or the 'Eaters of the Dead'. Recruited from the rad-blasted cannibal mutants of Terra's moons and toxic wastes, the early IX Legion threw themselves into meat-grinder sieges without resupply, replenishing their numbers by force-implanting gene-seed into dying enemy prisoners and eating the brains of their own fallen commanders via the Omophagea organ so that their Legion Master, Ishidur Ossuros, 'died' and was reborn dozens of times across a dozen bodies.

When Sanguinius took command, he bound them with the 'Five Angelic Virtues' and channelled their blood-lust into fine art, calligraphy, and discipline. Yet inside the Tower of Amareo on Baal sits a screaming secret even worse than the Black Rage: those brothers whose Red Thirst triggers total physical mutation into towering, bat-winged, crimson-furred vampiric beasts.

Sub-Factions, Secret Orders & Classified Relics

• The Tower of Amareo Inmates — Battle-brothers who have succumbed completely to the final physical mutation of the Red Thirst, kept chained in the highest spire of the Arx Angelicum and unleashed only when Baal itself faces extinction.
• The Flesh Tearers, Angels Vermillion & Blood Drinkers — Successor Chapters of the Sanguinary Brotherhood who cope with the Flaw through berserk slaughter or secret rituals of blood-consumption.
• The Erelim (Chaplains of the Angel's Tomb) — Five black-armoured, jump-pack Chaplains who never leave the shadowed vaults beneath the Golden Sarcophagus of Sanguinius on Baal, answering solely to Astorath the Grim.
